SLNT Programme Reports - 42nd AGM

This year Council decided to reduce the time spent presenting work programme reports at our AGM by making the full reports available ahead of the meeting. This is an experiment driven by two considerations:

  • This will allow more time for interaction with members; and
  • It will hopefully encourage more members to remain to the end of the meeting so that they can participate in the election of the new Council.

Dear Member,

As you know, the Saint Lucia National Trust has embarked on a review of its current strategic plan and on the preparation of its successor for 2019 - 2029, which will be launched at the time of Saint Lucia’s 40th Anniversary of Independence. Over the coming weeks, a number of activities, including workshops, focus groups, interviews and reviews of documents, will be held to conduct assessments and develop this new strategic plan. This topic will also be one of the items on the agenda of our forthcoming Annual General Meeting on 24 November.

We hope that all our members will contribute to this process and share their view on the future of their organisation. To this effect, we have created a simple online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SLNT-SP, and we encourage you to respond to this very short questionnaire. The SLNT and Government of Saint Lucia Reach Agreement on Former Prison

Castries, Saint Lucia- The Government of Saint Lucia and the Saint Lucia National Trust (SLNT) have agreed to hold consultations regarding conservation of the buildings which comprise the former Royal Gaol located at Bridge Street, Castries.

The site of the former Royal Gaol has been earmarked for the construction of a new Police Headquarters as well as a structure to house the Criminal Courts. The former Royal Gaol was abandoned in 2003 when all prisoners were transferred to the Bordelais Correctional Facility. The SLNT obtained an injunction restraining the demolition of the former Royal Gaol on the grounds that the buildings were of historical significance.

Knowledge is Power: More reasons we shouldn’t entertain a dolphinarium in Saint Lucia

One of the recurring messages that came out of the Saint Lucia National Trust’s (SLNT) viewing and panel discussion on ‘Dolphin Dilemma: The Antigua and Barbuda Story’ on September 5th was the need (for everyone not just the SLNT) to do more research, get the facts and share the information widely on the impacts the proposed dolphinarium would have on Saint Lucia.
