Marigot

An area of some 33 acres of land donated to the Trust by two private land owners (Renfro and Eggleston) is designated to be part of the proposed Marigot Protected Landscape. This area, located on the West Coast, has moderate to steep slopes inland rising to over 180 meters. A swampy woodland, a mangrove and scrub vegetation are used mainly for charcoal production and the making of banana props. There is no human habitation within the proposed protected area but a growing resort development exists in the area bordering the bay.

Some of the features of the area include a fringing mangrove which is a Marine Reserve and the Ruins of an old fort at Marigot point. The bay is a haven for yachts and provides some attractive offshore dive sites. Many species of birds, both land and sea are to be seen here.
